So, about the ending......(Spoiler Alert!)

What exactly killed Maury? He didn't appear to be drunk. He didn't appear to be high. He just appeared angry and ready to run away from it all.

What are your thoughts? I'm curious to know what other fans of the film think.

Thank you for reading. Have a great day!

If it's useless information, chances are I already know it!

I think he died of a heart attack, similar to Elvis, which was probably partly caused by the uppers and downers he was taking. He seemed to be "sweating" quite a bit towards the end.

Too fast to live, too young to--well, not too young, but you get my point. Living that on-the-road lifestyle eats up everything: women, whiskey, friends, talent, and all comes to nothing in a dead-end car. Witness that aspiring star/wanna-be kid running like hell away from Maury at the end. "Keep on the sunny side of life," the soundtrack goes. Not bad advice, considering the end the "real" star came to. As the famous bio of Jim Morrison put it, no one here gets out alive.

Woah, N to the A, you saw this one too? I agree that speed killed Maury – both the chemicals he ingested and the way he lived his life. Basically, he was speeding all the way through this film, and it was only a question of when he would crash.

My take on this film: Great story, performances and direction, but for a film about a country music singer, there's a sad lack of country music singing. Keep on the sunny side ...

My father seemed to think the ending reflected the downfall of Hank Williams. I think it's what could have happened to any number of musicians had they kept going down the same path as Maury did.

He died of a stroke, brought on by stress, amphetamine and alcohol abuse. Just before he checks out he's singing his tune "Country Girl" and one side of his face is twisted and his mouth is distorted. Sure sign of a CVA (stroke). He was an ignorant, insensitive lout that I doubt many who knew him would miss.
