The Other ~ ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzz

Ten minutes in....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Sorry, I gave up.
Heck, even the write-up and message board here at IMDb seemed rather boring.
Now...what did I miss?

yeah it was boring I'm afraid. I can see how it would be good for the 70s, but I struggled with this one.

No expectations, no disappointments.

Well, bloody heads rolling down intestine-laced staircases and throwing said intestines at the viewer at exact spaces in the film is one kind of horror, but it's not the kind that "The Other" represents, which is a far more intellectual type. Personally, I believe a true horror film gets under your skin (and not just through your gag reflex.) Those are the ones that I remember and keep going back to as true representation of the genre. It's been 40 years and I STILL remember just about every minute of THIS film. To each his own.

Agreed. Some people only like certain types of movies. :-D

I disagree with you wholeheartedly. I found it be a suspenseful, well written story with interesting, likable characters. Uta Hagen and the actors that played the twins were incredible. Their performances were some of the best I have seen in a horror film. I can see why people would think it was slow and boring because today's audiences are used to horror movies that rely solely on loud noises, grotesque looking monsters jumping out of dark corners, and rivers of blood. This film had none of that. Instead it's entire foundation was a good story and a cast of intriguing characters. Because of that it is one of my favorite movies ever.

OK OK...I'll give it another try...10 minutes in is not fair, I agree.
And NO...I am NOT a troll here!
Thanks for reminding me not to be so hasty in assessing things!

Make sure to post what you think of it when you give it a second chance. Sometimes when I watch movies, I don't like them the first time either because they weren't like what I thought they would be. But then I watch them a second time knowing what they're like and I can appreciate them for what they are. Many movies I hated the first time I watch them become my favorites the second time around so hopefully this might be like that for you.

"What did I miss?"

The remaining 85 minutes...?

Doesn`t it strike you as kind of idiotic to opine on a movie you haven`t even seen?

You don't have to order a large pie...take the first few bites, realize it's awful, then you rate it awful...and then obviously chuck out the pie.
Same with movies.
A few minutes in and i'ts not getting any better, you lose interest, you bail.
While one out of 10 or so might GET BETTER, some stink from the start.
Now to those who don't like my reviews, don't read em.
You're usually the type who loved the movie and can't figure out why others don't.
That's ok...you're entitled to YOUR opinion, AND I'M ENTITLED TO MINE.
Deal with it! lol!

That`s assuming the rest of the film is exactly the same as the first ten minutes, the way the rest of the pie tastes the same as the first bite. That, however, is not quite the case.

Was he saying something?
I only read the first five words. I can tell if something 'stinks' after just five words. It really cuts down on reading time!

After 10 minutes? Wow, you must have a bad case of ADHD.

reply

No movies are action packed and exciting the first ten minutes. You must have a chance to get to know the characters and setting before the action starts or else you'll just be watching strange things happen to complete strangers you don't know and have no reason to care about. It's very crazy to expect significant action that soon in a story.

I was bored early on too but I last a little more than ten minutes; maybe twenty but I could go no further. I fast forwarded through it only stopping when it looked as if something was happening. I'm glad I didn't invest the time. I got the point of the movie without sitting through two hours of it.
