watch it

Stark and grim, this is a very visual film, somewhat a poem or lyrics of a song. A mother works in a rock quarry and prepares for her sickly daughters wedding. In a couple scenes the Mom gives her daughter a spoonful of syrup which seems to stupify the child even more; probably an opiate compound.

The film then breaks off and "scene II" begins. I didn't make any connection with this part of the movie and the quarry-mother-daughter parts; maybe I missed something but the second half portrays a wedding celebration but not the wedding...what the hell, it has great atmosphere, is rare, filmed under Ceausescus regime, and is uploaded on YouTube with english subtitles. Watch it if you appreciate foreign cinema.
