Anchor Bay (Out of Print)

The Anchor Bay edition of The Blood Spattered Bride is long out of print, but Blue Underground has released it as a Special second disc for the film Daughters of Darkness. The films seem to be unrelated, but this is how Blue Underground choose to release them. Maybe sometime in the future they will give this a proper release. The DVD itself seems to be the same as the Anchor Bay one, but now with the Blue Underground logos instead.

It looks like BU has given its own proper release in Sept 08. Fantastic movie.

What is the relation between Anchor Bay and Blue Underground? They always release the same movies... Anchor Bay is better IMO because of their awesome VHS. I also have The Blood Spattered Bride on VHS. Blue Underground seem to be swaying off the nutsack of Anchor Bay. Why is this? Why don't they do their own thing?

Bill Lustig worked at Anchor Bay before leaving to form Blue Underground. He was a big part of their Euro-horror acquisitions, and actually licensed 100 or so titles to them for DVD/VHS release. As the rights reverted back to him, he released his own editions, on DVD and now on Blu Ray.

I have the Anchor Bay DVD which I picked up from an antique shop for four dollars a couple weeks ago. I don't believe the Blue Underground release is any different in terms of transfer (I thought AB's transfer was just fine), so I don't see a reason in upgrading to that. I've owned several Blue Underground titles that were formerly release by Anchor Bay, and oftentimes the discs were identical— same menu, same features, same transfers. I would definitely buy this film on Blu-ray, were it available in that format, but I'm not sure BU will be doing that any time soon.
