This is Horrible!

Not even the great Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee could save this stinker. There was barely a story. The whole demented mother part-acting at its hammiest-was a joke. And although they explained-sort of-what was going on at the end it did not save this mess.

I was wondering why this was not on DVD-now I know.

Skip this stinker!

Nothing But the Night isn't horrible. It's worth watching for at least the last 20 minutes (from the point where the launch explodes) and listening to Malcolm Williamson evoke "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" (and perhaps "The White Cliffs of Dover") with the heavy sax in his score. It meanders a lot until those last few minutes and probably could have worked better if it had found one or two characters to focus on (e.g., the mother or the reporter) or as an episode of "Hammer's House of Horror" rather than a full-length movie, but it's an intriguing concept that I'd almost like to see remade.

Plus: Who knew Micheal Gambon was in so many B-grade horror/sci-fi movies (this and The Beast Must Die) during the early '70s?

i agree, this is NOT horrible. i just enjoy watching cushing & lee in whatever they're in. i thought the mom was kinda corny, but almost all of the characters turned out by hammer studios back in the day were like that. acually i found the plot rather interesting & it reminded me of another movie from the 70's> i think it was "mephisto waltz". the older satan worshipping couple transfer their souls/minds/personalities into a younger couple so they could remain young. i'd like to do that! well except for the satan worshipping part! oh! and i have the beast must die> love calvin lockhart!!!! yeah, i was thinking about a remake for "nothing but the night" also.

I agree. The movie may not be without problems, but it's NOT horrible. Sir Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing do keep it watchable until that climax. Yeah, it's fun to see Mr. Gambon in movies like this and "The Beast Must Die" early in his film career.
