Messrs Lee and Cushing must have really needed the money!

Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, Britain's two finest horror movie stars, must have really needed the money when they agreed to star in this garbage. It is so incredibly dull that I can't put it into words. I fell asleep watching it about 10 years ago and remember little of what happened. I do remember it was absolutely s**t though.

Even THE LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES wasn't this bad and I thought Peter Cushing was really scraping it in that one.

Low-budget horror is the staple of Lee's career. This movie fits in perfectly.

I would agree that low-budget horror is the staple of Mr. Lee's career. However, for the most part the movies he starred in at the time were nowhere near as bad as this. Take for instance, HORROR EXPRESS, which came out just after this. It was a long way superior.

This was far from the worst either one of these distinguished thespians ever made. It was a little flat, but not without interest. I firmly believe Lee hoped this could be another "Wicker Man" as this was his sole production. Oh well, many times they are not as good when filmed as they are on paper.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Lee PRODUCED this movie, made, as I believe, a little BEFORE he made THE WICKER MAN. It does rely heavily on him and Peter Cushing to keep it watchable, but it's better than ANY Hammer film with Lee from this period, and all but TWINS OF EVIL or FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL for Cushing.

The first and last movie it made.

Apparently it came from a popular book and his company got the rights to a couple of other books from the same author, but were never made.
