Why did they change the story?
I wonder why they changed the ending from the book, was it to make it more dramatic? I wa a little disappointed that they did this, the film itself is okay.

sharei dont know why the changed it i think movies should try to stay true to the original source as much as they can.
not a bad movie, but i wouldnt say it was brandos best performance; he was still okay in it though.
What book are you talking about? This adaptation was written straight for the screen and has no affiliation with Henry James's "The Turn of the Screw" as far as I know.
shareRight, but Turn of the Screw describes the way Quint died, and it sure wasn't THIS way!
shareNow it's clearer, thanks; actually I don't even remember that particular detail in regard of this film but certainly it's not a rare event they change details of the previous story when making an "unofficial" sequel and, sometimes, even when making an official one (example: the end of "Evil Dead II" and the beginning of "Army of Darkness", its direct sequel).
shareWell, this version makes someone a murderer. Surely this person would have been caught and not allowed to wander freely in Turn of the Screw. In the original, the death was the result of an accident. That's a pretty big change.
shareSo they changed some details...big deal. This is a prequel--they could do whatever they wanted with the story.
And besides, just what the hell makes Turn Of The Screw some kind of "set in stone" novel that makes every part of it's story unchangeable? How many versions of Frankenstein and Dracula are out there that have taken liberties with those novels? It's the filmmakers prerogative to make his film, not be a slave to the source material.
Hey look--I won an award for just showing up! Yay!!!
