Hey, great review, thanks! I just saw this for the first time and, damn, if it isn't one of the more regal gialli! I actually got similar feeling when I watched The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (my first Martino, and still the best). Giallos can also be logical and Hitchcockian (the master only second to Tarkovsky to me). it's just that the known "masters" of the genre were not blessed with that analytical mind. I know Dario tried it, but he's just too crazy. Love the man, still, deeply. To me, Fulci have always been a letdown, but I haven't seen Lizard in woman's skin yet so maybe that's about to change. I know his "dream logic" is a cop out. As a lover of Romero's original zombies, Fulci always seems as a con artist to me. But we'll see...

EDIT: Oh and I think that Gianni Ferrio's soundtrack was sublime, even on giallo standards! It actually held it's course even among the greats like Morricone and Nicolai.

EDIT2, MUCH LATER: Now I've seen the Lizard in Woman's Skin and no, I still don't like Fulci. That film was very stylish and well directed, but somehow it left me cold. There was a strange aura of misanthropy that I just don't like.

BTW it was funny to see that Dario made an hommage to this in Suspiria. That strange scene in locked room with window and suitcases.

"Very well, then. I shall say no more. Just... tinkerty-tonk!"
