one thing that always bothered me...was why did the bosses put a hit out on bronson?

the boat hit was a setup...the organization was miffed he did a sloppy hit on the drug dealers/took on vincent as an apprentice...

so why the elaborate ruse to get bronson to Italy, do a hit on a boat as a setup, and kill him on the boat

with vincent and bronson geared up for a hit, this seems like an elaborate yet public way to eliminate him....for an organization that would normally want to keep a low profile. to complicate matters, they have a ton of people after the boat hit chasing him down on the road. very sloppy and public.

if they can get him on a private plane, limousine, onto a private estate with a cheetah...why not just pop a few bullets in him and acid bath. or whatever.

cool movie, but this always bothered me.

The boat hit was real, but Jan Michael Vincent was supposed to hit Bronson afterwards. Yes, there was some plot holes, and the explanation, that he violated the rule by hiring a partner is a contradiction that the partner was the one given the hit. But the thing that bothered me more was him leaving the folder in the desk where Bronson easily found it. Gotta love that ending though; he thought Vincent might refuse to hit him, but he wasn't sure so covered that contingency. But then why did he ask, "was it because of your father" when he had already seen the contract. I'd like to read the book which supposedly was totally different and the writer hated the film.

It *could* be inferred that Jan Michael Vincent was 'in' on the Naples job, and that perhaps the handlers liked the idea of having a younger, emotionless (not to mention 'cheaper') killer on board, and likely considered Bronson being past it, given his unsanctioned need for assistance in the first place.

Plus, the guy with the Leopard was already aware of who JMV was when he briefed Bronson (perhaps JMV had been contacted or gotten to beforehand).....and it neatly ties in for it not to be a revenge 'hit' for his father, because he readily admits at the end that he thought he'd (quote) "just died"

The photo/files on Bronson were in JMV's possession, not long before the 'Naples' job is proposed?

JMV may have had his initial orders to wipe out Bronson in Italy (and perhaps the speedboat guys were HIS backiup....with poisoned wine glasses as a second back-up?)

Yeah, I know there's a lot of it's, but's and maybes to my assertion....but they seem all credible (within the already 'sparse' exposition of the movie)
