Interesting Omission

I just saw this last night and while I thoroughly enjoyed it and can see it inspired some later fictional work, one thing struck me. It wouldn't sell now. There was no "after." In today's world, we'd need to know the repercussions and how his life went after he revealed the secret, but that's the beauty of this film. The film is the revelation. I'm sure many of his devotees still don't know about it, because I read after that southern distribution was kept to a minimum.

I know from people I've met through life, that most people don't mind being duped, especially when it comes to their beliefs, but they do hate it so, when other people know about it. I am sure this is why Marjoe's father is seen, but he was unaware of the film's nature. Some might think that is unethical, but let's remember who supported him for ten years of his life.

Good film, but it is very dated and you really must put yourself back in that time. Which also made me say "800 acres of Brazilian rain forest?" WOW!
