I found it on rustedrare.com

I'm not sure I'd bother again, though. It's damn overrated, probably because 90% of those who heard of it haven't seen it. It's rather lame, in fact, and of course *terribly* outdated. Giving it an Oscar nomination must have been a belated April Fool's joke.

No way, I thought it was cool when I saw it about ten years ago, maybe my opinion will have changed if I could see it again. I rented it from a Blockbuster (of all places) and saw it about four times. Having the actual people involved tell their own stories without commentary is probably what gives it its power compared to the semi-fictionalized, Bugliosi-approved versions that have been peddled. Also the soundtrack is great -- really haunting from what I recall. It kinda turned me on to the whole Charlie mythos at that time and I even ended up writing a letter to "Red" (Fromme) but she either didn't get it or chose not to respond. I also recommend "Charles Manson Superstar" by Nicholas Schreck for a clearly pro-Family, anti-Bugliosi viewpoint. No sense makes sense!

Yeah I got a copy of it. Its intriguing. Another good companion piece is Helter Skelter, the T.V. movie directed by Tom Gries. Its out on DVD.
I couldnt stop watching it. On the original cover of the video it said
Banned in California. the final scene had members of the family still waiting outside the courthouse. The final words by former family member Paul Watkins was "the only way to get to life is through life"

reply

Aww man, I love this movie because it's really the Family and it's really Charlie and Bugliosi. Yeah, some of it is lame, no doubt, but as a person who watches cheesy, b-movies all the time, that just made it more fun for me.

Incidentally, I kinda like some of the music from this film. Especially this trippy, acoustic song that the two guys sung together somewhere in the middle of the film.

Who were the two singers and does anybody know what the name of that song was?

Nevermind. That was Paul Watkins singing with Brooks Poston. I'll find the name of the song.

For anyone with the slightest interest in Manson, the Manson Murders, or even the sixties, this is absolutely indispensible and mindblowing. The cheezy voiceover narration or Bugliosi's brief posturing scene can't take away from the fact that this is members of the Family; including a heavily armed Squeaky Fromme and Sandra Goode, Clem and Mary Brunner all candidly talking about what happened. Check out the part where the narrator introduces one of Susan Atkins cellmates and spends about thirty seconds going through all her aliases: Priceless!

You can get a DVD copy from me, as long as it remains out of print that is. [email protected]

I found my copy at a swap meet! In a box of videos sitting in the hot sun. Looked thru the box and found this movie, paid a buck for it, took it to a guy who slapped it on disc for me... and Presto! Instant collector's item!
Have a good day.

I got mine a few weeks back and it's awesome (although it was pricey). I paid $49.95 for my copy ($39.95 for the DVD and $10.00 for s&h). They put your name on the DVD box and the director personally signs each copy. I'd say it's worth it if you're a fan of this film because you're getting a good quality transfer and it's directly from the filmaker - a true collector's item. Plus, you won't be supporting the bootleggers who have been charging exhorbitant prices for *beep* VHS to DVD transfers. Here's the link:
