Savalas and the mannequins

In "House of Exorcism", Telly Savalas as the devil is seen carrying around and repairing mannequins of already or soon-to-be deceased characters. I didn't comprehend the reason for this, if indeed there was one. I haven't yet seen
"Lisa and the Devil", the original picture that H.O.E. is a re-edit of, but I
thought it might contain an explanation of this. If so, can anyone who has seen L.A.T.D. share this explanation?

reply

Explanation? No, not in THIS movie... The original cut (which I HIGHLY recommend) is a dream-like narrative without explanations, though it does make a bit more sense than the slapdash House of Exorcism version.

sexy_dancer: Original cut: Which do you have? Mine is 95 minutes; I have seen reference on the internet that a 1 hour 52 minute version exists. The mannequins: substitute "puppets". All of us? Time: The movie starts in 1973 but the couple who pick up Lisa live in the 1920's; the wife doesn't complain about an antique car but a "foreign" car. When they break down at the mansion "Leandro" says they do not have a telephone. He is aware of telephones but knows it has not net been invented. End of movie: School children say no one has lived in the house for 100 years. So, Lisa was 100 years in the past?

Wild guess: sexy_dancer loves Donnie Darko

First, substitute "puppet" for "mannequin". We are the puppets. "Lisa and the Devil" is currently all over ebay for under $10. Totally different movie. It confuses me and I love it!

The mannequins are also likened to the fresco of the devil carrying away the dead (a shot of Savalas with the mannequin of Santoni mirrors the fresco image).

Telly only slightly resembles the devil though and this is undoubtedly a by-product of the legendary editing downward spiral of the movie.
Who loves ya baby..
