I don't get all the praise for this melodramatic, piece-of-crap film.

Before anyone asks, yes I saw the version with the rape and sex scenes.

The acting is a joke and the film is not scary at all....it plays like a cheesy 70's made-for-tv movie. The only reason I decided to watch it was because some people said it was scary...well if your idea of scary is Telly Savalas sucking on a lollipop, I would suggest you don't watch the exorcist.

No offence to those who liked it...to each his/her own. I'm just giving my humble opinion.

The version you saw is hardly the same film as I saw. Next time watch the correct version instead of some edited crapy version. The original is amazing.

Antiparanoia is the eerie feeling that nothing is connected to anything else

Scary? I don't think this film is meant to be scary. it's all about style and atmosphere.. "Lisa & the Devil" is more like a gothic romance novel than a horror film. have you seen Mario Bava's final film, "Rabid Dogs?" You might enjoy that one..it's non-stop action and twisted violence.

Nope, not scary but there is a dark sense of inevitability and an essentially innocent young woman trapped in an endless tragic cycle.

I think the brilliantly named Labia Mirage above had the right of it when she called his a gothic romance.

I just saw Lisa and the Devil (not House of Exorcism) and I kind of hated it.

I agree. This was my 8th film that I saw from director Mario Bava and the first one that I did not like. A mess of a movie and quite simply just crap. Bava is pretty good overall, although certainly overrated; check out Planet of the Vampries and The Whip and the Body; I really liked those...Christopher Lee is in the latter.

He is not coming back. He has forgotten me.

For any readers here looking for information on Lisa and the Devil: Do not watch the version titled House of Exorcism that is highly edited. Let the one titled Lisa and the Devil take you on a hypnotic and dreamlike ride. Bava fans who have not seen this are in for a treat.
