I loved the first girl

The jaded woman was great--my interest began to wane by the time he got to the married woman but all in all I thought the movie was pretty good

Sally Kellerman's perfomance was great. In fact I thought all the acting was well done.

My losing interest in it might perhaps be traced to the script's theatrical origins. What may work on stage doesn't always translate into cinema.

I'm with you on this. Kellerman's character was easily the most perceptive and amusing. For me, the movie started to die the moment she departed for the last time. The acting was fine throughout but the other two women were such broad caricatures that I found them madly irritating.

I thought the movie was pretty good fun, even if I never really laughed out loud. I agree that Kellerman gave the best performance. As usual, Arkin SHOUTED far too much for me. Kellerman didn't have to resort to all of that ham to give an engaging performance.

i loved the red head especially near the fan

I agree that Sally Kellerman was the most challenging, and it also made for the best conversation between the two. The second woman was hilarious, though she stole the show, and the third woman was rather shrill. Still. I loved all of them – but I especially loved Alan Arkin.

I often use some of Elaine's sarcastic statements at parties: "You gonna use that bottle again, or are you gonna turn it into a lamp?" or "I'll pour it myself, I won't go past the pencil mark". Love this film!

Those are great lines to drop on people at parties. And if you ever meet someone who gets the reference, you've met your soul-mate!

one of my favorite alan arkin films...

but, i really like the parts written for the actresses in this film. i like paula prentiss' performance best, but sally kellerman has always been one of my favorite actresses. i've seen renee taylor in a few other films, and she played neurotic very well.

I was drawn to this film mainly for Sally Kellerman, though I love Alan Arkin as well. But you're right: This film has three very well-written roles for three very strong actresses, and they all pull it off perfectly.

I love quoting Elaine! Her blatant sarcasm is so cool! I love saying things like, "I wouldn't be at all surprised". If someone kisses me too sharply and then apologizes I say, "That was nice. A little pointy but nice".

If you have this on DVD, try watching the Paula Prentiss scene and see if you can follow her convoluted stories. They all actually coincide!

Of course all of this is the result of Neil Simon's genius. I don't think there will ever be another writer like Simon in our lifetime. Such a deep understanding of the human condition! Paired perfectly with the brilliance to make it so touchingly funny and sad.
