This is by far the worst I've ever seen

End of the story. Maybe in the 70s you fell in love with this movie because it was kind of "different". But let's face the truth. Today maybe historians may find this "interesting", nobody else.

Hahahahaha!

This film had been out for about 15 years when I was born. I didn't even watch it until my late teens/early twenties, after I had seen hundreds of horror films. So there's no nostalgia factor for me, yet I still think its great.

"Manos: The Hands of Fate" is much, much worse.

Every movie ever made has someone proclaiming it to be the 'worst ever made', and ever so rarely do they actually provide any evidence - or even basic opinion - to back up their statement.

You made a declaration, so will I.

You are wrong.

End of the story.

I saw it in 72' and it was "great" because it seemed so raw/natural, which was the disturbing part, and the reminder these heinous crimes really do happen. We hear so much about the same types of crime today, so the film may seem less shocking now (along with the fact that we've become to numb to horror films like this)

The Exorcist (and others) is somewhat the same: great film. but still depressing

I used to think this movie was horrible and one the worst ever made, but a second viewing made me think again about its substance. Despite a few failed attempts at comedy, it's a pretty good exploitation thriller.

reply

Agreed. The "few failed attempts at comedy," namely the cops, should've been done away with, changes the feel of the film. Also get rid of the randomly place happy-go-lucky John Denver music perhaps.

reply

No way. The hokey music and bumbling cops give the movie a much-needed reprieve from the disturbing events happening in the rest of the film. I love it. It's the weird back-and-forth between horror and low-brow comedy that makes this one so unique and memorable.

reply

The revenge plan is very close to being comedic also.

reply

If anyone else made it it wouldn't matter. People place Craven on an unwarranted pedestal.
