Mari & Phyllis

Out of the whole cast, these two had the least development and screen time. With that said, I could not care less about either of them. Hell, both actresses even have top billing.

I felt rather bad for them. They were just innocent teenagers looking to party and have a wild time. Unfortunately they were in the wrong place at the wrong time so they brought Hell down upon themselves which they didn't deserve.

One scene involving them I thought had surprisingly good character development is when Mari and Phyllis are forced to have sex and Phyllis says "It's just you and me here. Not anyone else." She was trying to comfort Mari and assure her everything would be okay despite the fact she knew deep down it might not. I thought that was an emotional, honest moment.

So right.

At thirteen when I first saw this, I knew intuitively that I was seeing a style of acting I had never seen. Although I didn’t have the words for this (naturalistic acting), it made quite an impression. Even then I understood completely what Phyllis was trying to do, and that the actress playing her was not playing to the audience but to her friend Mari. Honest moment indeed.
