Does this movie go right to her death?

I read that Billie Holiday was even arrested on her death bed for possession of drugs (I repeat read, may not be true), if true though, is this depicted in the movie?

I haven't seen it but I have seen the intro a few years back where Billie is in a prison cell (I think) in a hysterical state. Very harrowing I thought.

My mum can't recommend this movie enough and said she loved it (she's a Billie fan), I've always been skeptical about seeing it though, I'm not sure why

The circumstances of Holiday's death are not depicted in this film. Your skepticism aside, give this a shot. Don't expect an accurate portrayal of Lady's life; rather, it's a showcase for Miss Ross, who, given the screenplay's glaring omissions and inaccuracies, greatly deserved her Oscar nomination. She's utterly shattering in this, as is Richard Pryor, who, in his meatiest role to date at the time, will blow you away.

Helga, I'm not mad at you; I'm mad at the dirt.
