The new vocal cast

Any opinions on the new voices provided on the DVDs? It took me a bit to get used to them, but I am thoroughly enjoying them now. Their attempts to capture the spirit of the 1970's is spot on, and they have managed to retain the essence of the plots without altering anything of importance for the first time ever. Yes, they do stick in their own little expletives or corny phrases from time to time, but I think it has been all in good humor and stayed true to the original Japanese intentions.

The commentaries have been up and down thus far, though. Some of the voice actors don't seem to take this seriously enough when discussing the subject, making for waste of time commentaries where they make fun of the show. Not a great way to win over a fan like myself. I do enjoy the director Charles Campbell's comments and sense of humor, though, for he seems to really be a fan and have fond memories from his childhood. The best commentary to date was with George Manley, the narrator of each episode. He exhibited both a fondness for the show as well as being very well educated in it's history. Sarah Alys Lindholm also provided a wonderful commentary, one that elaborated on what it is like to translate the original Japanes language into English. Very informative and interesting listen in my opinion! Some, like Andy McAvin (Dr. Nambu) kept making indiscrete sexual jokes that got old very quickly. The commentaries have been a odd experience, simply due to the variety and not knowing whether one will be worth the time iot takes to listen or not. Luckily, some are worthy of a listen, which keeps me trying them out!
