This movie didn't garner much attention here on the Boards.

I tuned in recently just to see Steve McQueen but I remember passing on the film long ago because the rodeo bit just didn't interest me. Seems by the look of the conversations here that others felt the same way. Not much interest.

I did just google Prescott Arizona Rodeo and found that after 35 years since this movie, the rodeo does still exist.

Yeap. I never watched it because of the rodeo thing (for 30 years), until I realized that it was the only McQueen film I'd never seen. Once I got past the "emotional" theme song, I was fine. Thought it was a perfect little film, with no ambitions, a lot of Americana and an inspiration for any "road less travelled" type person who's approaching the crossroads of middle age.
Great Cinematography here too. You could even smell the bullsh#t... from Joe Don Baker.

Standard viewing.

Yes, the World's Oldest Rodeo still goes on, except that the Yavapai County Fairgrounds, where it is held, is now located in Prescott Valley, north of Prescott.
