Which version of the DVD do you have?

Chinese Connection, I purchased the GOODTIMES version which came in a DVD 2 pack with Fists of Fury. The covers state that these are digitally remastered and in widescreen. What a freaking joke. They added black bars to the top and bottom of the screen in a lame attempt to make us think that it's in widescreen format. Did they think people wouldn't notice every time somebody's head disappeared off the top of the picture? Does anyone know how these compare to the quality of other relases. Especially the Hong Kong release which I was originally thinking of ordering from HKFlix.com (Fists of Fury and Big Boss). What about the Fox versions?

In my opinion the Hong Kong Legends R2 Bruce Lee DVD's are the benchmark...

There are so many versions of this dvd. Anything with Bruce Lee will have tons of cheap video to dvd transfers. I would recommend the Fox versions. Eventhough the hong kong prints are the best versions available, they are region 3 dvds, which will not play on US dvd players. Trust me, the Fox versions are pretty good. The transfer is not bad, and it has some clarity that you can't find on those knockoffs.

I agree that FOX versions are pretty good.(I have FOX versions of "Return of the Dragon" and "Game of Death" on DVD) Unfortunately, my brother and sister in-law(through no fault of their own) bought me a cheap copy of a dvd (a double feature of "Chinese Connection" and "Fists of Fury") released by Madacy Entertainment. Madacy, or whoever did that transferring, did a lousy job. The video quality was poor, especially with "Chinese Connection"! (The dialogue sounded like a record player at low speed! It was awful!) "Fists of Fury" on that DVD was only slightly better! I recommend that every avid Bruce Lee fan steer clear of el cheapo DVD releases of his movies (Especially if they are put out by Madacy Entertainment!) and invest in the CBS Fox versions, instead! (or the australian or HKlegends versions, as recommended in other messages.

Yeah I got that Madacy DVD too. TERRIBLE quality all around. Laughably so.

I've got the UK HK Legends version, the Fox/Fortune Star boxset and I just got the Kam/Ronson Blu-Ray in the mail this morning.

If you go to Best Buy, they have all of his movies digitally remastered. I don't have the Chinese Connection version (I have a different one - kinda cheap) but I have the Return of the Dragon and it's pretty decent. Wide screen and everything. It's only $9.99 (or is at my Best Buy)

I found this box set at Best Buy. With Chinese Connection, Fists of Fury, A dragon Story and The Legend of Bruce Lee for $18. Ive never seen a bruce lee movie, im only 18 though, but I just bought the set because it was so cheap. Just searching IMDB to figure out which one to watch first

My stepdad has the Laugh Track one and I watched the first few seconds to see if it played (we got it at Big Lots! after all for 3.99) and it is in widescreen like the case says but the picture quality is horrendous (sp?). I could barely look at it and the sound is somewhat annoying. Whatever though for 4 bucks!

I've got the Master Collection boxed set that Fox put out. It contains "The Big Boss", "Fist of Fury", "Way of the Dragon", "Game of Death", and "Bruce Lee: The Legend". They're really good quality. Better than the cheap knock-offs out there anyway.

Ive got the disk plaza edition that also comes with fists of fury. I got it at walgreens for 3:99. I also have the madacy edition DVD that comes with fists of fury. I got it at F.Y.E. for 14:99. And Ive got the catcom edition. I got it at big lots for 3:99. Ind Ive got the dollar edition. I got it at family dollar for 1:00 and it's awesome! I got the front row edition. I got it at walgreens for 3:99. Ive got the vintage classics 3 movies which comes with. Blind fists of bruce lee, Bruce Lee the man....the myth and the chinese connection i got it at best buy for 5:99. I got the Bruce Lee collectors edition 4 movies which includes fists of fury, the chinese connection, fist of fear touch of death and the real Bruce Lee. fists of fury and the chinese connection of this set is the world's most widescreen movie's ever made. i got this at F.Y.E. for 8:99. Last of all i have the Bruce Lee master collection which includes fists of fury, and the chinese connection, return of the dragon, game of death and bruce lee the legend. Boy that's a lot of DVD's!

Hong Kong Legends "Special Collector's Edition" DVD (Region 4 - Contender/Fortune Star/Universal). Good picture quality and bonus features, but some of the credits and subtitles don't quite fit onto my 21" TV screen for some reason.

Agreed....the Media Asia HKL version is the best DVD of this film ! They gave a similar treatment to several other key martial arts films including "Police Story", "Armour of God" and "Once Upon a Time in China".

All of them digitally remastered, 2.35:1 Anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1

I have the CBS Fox copy on VHS (dubbed in English), as well as the Mega Star DVD(Hong Kong), which is supposedly pretty rare. it has Cantonese, Mandarin, and English language tracks, as well as very good picture and sound quality(especially for a movie made in 1972!).

If you mean only for the Chinese Connection (Fist of Fury), I have it on CBS Fox Video VHS and a burned DVD from Chinatown. The burned DVD is much better IMO for the original language. The quality is actually very good.

I actually Have THREE Fox Versions:

The first and second were the original Fox VHS and DVD Widescreen release with the Dyaliscope effect (Alas, not 16x9) with the US titles (The ones used on the National General Cinema/Columbia Pictures prints) (with the English language track, no extras). (The first was the CBS/Fox VHS Release with a regular case [in fullscreen]; in any case: both versions used the Columbia Pictures logo.)

The Most recent one I've bought (around a week ago) was the one Fox and Fortune Star released 2 years ago (The "Ultimate Collection" box set) with the original titles as well as having a 16x9 transfer (which, unfortunately, loses the Dyaliscope effect, but still, give credit where it's due - At least it kept the original titles), the original Mandarin and Cantonese tracks (a PLUS), and Some extras (just the Original trailer, photo gallery, and an interview with the actor who played the guy that told Chen to bend down to get in the park [and got beat up] giving his anecdotes; it doesn't have the big name extras in the HKL versions, but at least it's decent). If I'm correct, I think that this DVD is the Dimension Films print, which has the recent Golden Harvest logo (luckily, Dimension's logo no longer appears here!). They also restore a few seconds in which Chen loiters around the school.

I have a Legacy DVD set. The Chinese Connection is widescreen and has the original Columbia logo. Other than the fact the film is dubbed, should I be impressed? :)
I was able to get the pack for $3.99 at a clothing discount store. "four titles on two discs"
Goodbye Bruce Lee, Chinese Connection, Street Fighter and Dragon Fist. haven't watched the others.
