I don't know if this intentional or not, but in the scene where JJ and the Crazy Woman have buried her family members, they're singing a hymn and the camera dollies away from the scene to reveal a rock formation that looks like an angel....etched in the rock.
Has anyone noticed this?

Yes, I think it is very intentional. Notice that a few seconds later the Crazy Woman is in a tree shadow that looks like a skull, and just before the scene where she is burying her children there is a skull image hidden in the rocks.

This film has other subtle visuals, like the 2-frame blue flash in JJ's eyes in the Crow burial ground when he recognizes Swan's blue decorations just placed on the remains.

shareI read this on glen-121's post a while ago. I went back and looked at all he pointed out. I did see the "angel" in the rock. I did not however see a shadow of a skull from the tree. I saw the upper half of the skull just prior to JJ meeting the crazy woman. I went frame by frame through the scene where he realizes what has happened to Caleb and Swan and sorry: no two frame flash of blue in his eyes just a change of light as he turns his head.
The scene in front of the "angel" rock could have been intentional if someone had noticed the rock and thought of setting up the shot there. As far as the shadow from the tree. I highly doubt it. Sunlight changes faily drastically every 15 minutes. So much so that camera angles have to be checked and sometimes reset for continuity of shadows. If someone did see a "skull" shadow, by the time the scene was ready to shoot the light would have changed too much to have the same effect.
Honestly I think you are reading way too much into those scenes. You could look at shadows in rocks all day and see about a million skulls and other things. When I was in psychology classes they showed us pictures of the ice in the whiskey adds in magazines and pointed out skulls and the like that people said where hidden in the add. Yea if you looked real close you could see images that looked like skulls but I highly doubt the images were intentional. As a kid in homeroom class we could all see George Washington's face in the swirl pattern of the ceiling. Does that mean the school intentionally put it there to remind us of the father of the country?
