Hey everybody!
My husband and I are divided on the authenticity of Redford's beard.
He thinks it's real but I think it's far too dark to be his real beard. Then again, his stubble seems kinda dark in other pictures.
Anybody know?
It's actually Trunk Davis's beard.

For what it's worth, one of my schoolmates had blond hair like Redford's and a dark red beard when he let it grow out.

I reckon the beard's real. I had blonde hair when younger & a copper coloured beard.
I always reckoned his hair was a bit too well kempt for a mountain man. You can
almost smell the Pantene!!
Beards are often much darker than hair on the head.
A friend of mine has completely blond hair and close to black beard.
It's pretty normal.
I think his beard is real. It doesn't have to match. The hair on my head is a uniform dark brown (well, it was - now the grays are coming in) but my facial hair would come in dark brown, red, and even blond in some places.
His stubble is clearly fake - after he shaved for Swan, he let it grow back. The makeup artist clearly rubbed dark stage makeup all over his face in at least one scene.
for sure it'r real. You can spot fake beard easily, especially 1970's ones. Also if you get he DVD there is a making of feature in there where it shows him off camera wight he beard (could have been after makeup and before shooting but still). This movie is my #1 favorite of all time BTW.
