Man in the Wilderness, A Man Called Horse, Across the Wide Missouri, The Big Sky, The Mountain Men, all come to mind.

Especially "The Mountain Men"

Sort of "Dances with Wolves", too.

If one likes snowy mountains in westerns then I have to add "The Great Silence", which is absolutely brilliant spaghetti western, but unfortunately relatively unknown one.

Outside of western genre, the Bronson film "Death Hunt" (1981), springs to mind as well.

A man called horse, and a man in the wilderness. Both of these are based on the same true life character as in The Revenant////
