I was there during the filming of 'Honkers'

I was in Carlsbad, New Mexico playing music in a band in the Stephen's Motel Lounge where all the movie people hung out almost every night. It was very exciting because the club was standing room only everynight with locals wanting to see the movie people. I remember Jim Davis was one party animal. I met Ann Archer at the Ramada Inn near the pool. She was about 18 then and wow. Slim Pickens, Larry Machon, and all the film crew were in the club almost nightly. I met James Colburn at Aho's recording studio one afternoon. He didn't drink and carry on like the others.

The whole cast ate at my grandmother's restaurant, Marchione's, during the filming. Her sign was in the movie in fact. She had told me all about it years ago.

How neat that you were there! I believe my brother had a bit part in the movie ... the drummer in the night club .. but that's all I remember. My folks spent Mother's Day afternoon with James Colburn and some of the crew. I have family pictures of them...somewhere! I can't believe Ann Archer was only about 18, then. Goodness, such a long time ago. Glad you shared your posting.

I worked on the movie set as a gofer. The first day I got my driver's license I was told to pick up James Colburn, Slim Pickens and some others at the Hotel. I think it was the Ramada back then. I was able to look in Jame's room and saw some small bar bells on the floor. They never talked to me when I was driving. In the sex scene I was told to leave the house.

hi i think you're so lucky to have met james coburn. i've been trying to get a copy of this movie for ages. my all time favourite of his is "hard contract".
i get a lot of my movies from the US as they rarely get released here in australia, especially these classics from the 70's and late 60's.
i was amazed to learn he was such a martial arts fan.
thanks for sharing your story................

Did any of you, who worked on the film, get a chance to meet Steve Ihnat? I've always enjoyed his work as an actor, and from what I can tell, he was a excellent director and writer, too. What was he like in person?

I would also like to hear some personal reminiscences of Steve Ihnat. A favorite actor of mine.

Pretty cool! I rode two bulls for the film.

Anne Archer would have been 25 at that time, not 18! Coburn would have been about 20 years older than her. Pretty typical age gap for Hollywood movies, especially back then. Lois Nettleton was the same age as Coburn.
