What the heck happened to composer Dee Barton?

After contributing a superb musical score to this movie, and doing Eastwood's "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" the following year, he disappeared completely, not resurfacing until the 1980s for a few awful schlock movies, only to disappear once again.
