Ridiculous Rape Threads

I'm not even going to waste the time it takes to counter these people and the nonsense being spouted about the so-called rape at the beginning of the film. I figure they fall into two categories a) trolls having fun riling people up, and b) clueless morons who are incapable of understanding a movie that is not all that complicated to begin with.

The bad news is you have houseguests. There is no good news.

I feel the same frustration. I came to this board hoping to find some intelligent conversations about High Plains Drifter. Instead I find nothing but redundant threads full of people arguing about the same two subjects over and over again: 1) the "rape" scene, and 2) whether or not Clint Eastwood is a ghost or angel. These two subjects have been beaten to a pulp here. But apparently nobody can think of anything else to discuss. I think I will go elsewhere in imdb land.

Honestly, it's unbelievable. She walks all the way across the very wide main street so that she can intentionally run into him, and then blames him for the collision and starts insulting him, complete with slapping his cigar out of his mouth. When he then drags her into the livery stable, she then puts up a half-assed objection to it before actually helping him get out of his pants! Also, she's apparently SO traumatized by the "rape" that she accepts his invitation for dinner and more sex. It's made very plain in the dialog that she's got a history of lying down for whoever seems to be the leader of the pack at any given time.

yeah, the world would be a much better & FAR more enjoy place if we got rid of all PC liberal scumsuckers polluting the earth with the sewage spewing out of their mouths.



Yeah I've just finished watching it not long ago. Really wasn't shocked to find a bunch of threads complaining about "rape". PC people are so predictable.

Open your mind a bit. I'm a black conservative and not PC in the least, but I've changed my mind over the years about this scene after watching this film perhaps too many times. Here are the facts:

Callie went out of her way to intentionally attacked the stranger, both verbally and physically.
The stranger turns to leave, but Callie continues to abuse the stranger instead of letting the matter drop.
Callie continued her verbal and physical assault and for all intents and purposes challenged the stranger to beat her or otherwise abuse her.
The stranger obliged and dragged her to the barn to rape her.
Callie was furious that the stranger would call her bluff and fought him as best she could. (watch it again folks, she did NOT go willingly)
Callie was furious that no man in town would defend the little honor she had.
Callie changed her mind half way through and enjoyed the sex.
Callie, being fickle, became furious again that the stranger took what she (initially) did not want him to have so attempted to shoot him in the bathtub.
Callie, being fickle, flipped again and had dinner with the stranger and had sex with him again willingly.

Face it, had Callie continued her struggle the entire time the stranger had her in the barn, would you not consider it rape? If a guy beat the crap out of someone in anger, then bought him a drink and they became buddies, would the first part still not be an assault? Because she changed her mind half way through doesn't change what happened at first. We don't decide when they're getting dressed if it's a rape or not.

If the Stranger had instead punched her teeth in after she attacked him, I think a good portion of watchers would cheer at that scene even today.

There were no really good guys in this film, kind of like Eastwood's "Unforgiven".
