If this film was made again now, I have a feeling maybe Michael Mann would direct it, with Will Smith as Hickey and Colin Farrell as Boggs. I guess it would feel more like a thriller, with the occasional bursts of action Mann is capable of.
shareI agree- this film wouldn't be made today. The atmosphere of urban decay which comes through in this film (organized crime, a militant Black Power group, etc) just isn't around today. As likely as not it would have Samuel L. Jackson running around blowing holes in the scenery... No, it just wouldn't work.

Funnily enough, I've never seen H&B, but I recently purchased it off ebay on video and should be getting it next week. I saw clips of it at my cousin's house, though, back in December '97, and I saw a bit more of it a year later on British channel Five. The bit I saw included Jack Colvin as the DA, but I couldn't watch anymore because the picture reception was poor.
I'm a big Walter Hill fan, and I'm glad they have not yet remade The Warriors (hope they never do, man).
