Liz + Dick

You had to be there. Some of their movies, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe", "The Taming of the Shrew", were classics. Others, such as "Boom", were disasters. Such is this movie. It is trash on a grand scale; based on a Peter Ustniov script, and directed by same, this train-wreck of a movie is worth seeing because the talent going down the metallic garbage disposal is too awesome to miss. I highly recommend this movie to anybody who loves camp.

Is it really that bad? I've looking forward to see it, but it never airs on tv and when it appears for sale is so expensive. It has a good cast and Liz won best actress award in berlin that year. I dind't think it was that bad. Is it worse than Boom!?

Nothing is worse or more campy that Boom. Of course Boom had the swarf, Liz on drugs the whole movie and Burton screaming "Mrs. Goforth" every 3 seconds.

Hammersmith is a much better movie and not as campy. Mind you, it's still a train wreck and it is campy, but nothing in the league of Boom.

True, "Hammersmith is Out" is NOT a LIZ/DICK cinema classic like "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe." But, it is not an unwatchable bore like "Boom." Actually the film was before its time. Many scenes bring camp to a new level. A particular favorite is when after just having boinked hash house waitress Liz over some sacks of veggies, to impress her, Beau Bridges says that he has had the clap. In another scene when Liz is asked to say something dirty, she screws up her face, and after a long pause comes up with "Pee pee." I am almost sure that when Liz has a tirade she screams "Monkey nuts" and "Peanut balls," which had me laughing. Although Beau is capable, the film would have been better if the original choice for Beau's part, Clint Eastwood had not turned the role down. Beau is miscast as a consort for Liz. With Clint this film would be a cinematic camp classic. With Beau, it is just fun.

Does anyone remember the scene where George Raft makes his entrance? Had my friend and I in hysterics on the floor for quite some time. Also, Liz in blonde wig screaming delight in the swimming pool "My very own swimmum pool".

It's one of those great "bad films of all time".

Yes, this film is one part guilty pleasure and one part train wreck. But as far as awesomely bad taylor films go, I prefer X, Y and Zee.

P.S. drapkin1958 -- You replied to a post of mine on the Men Don't Leave Board and I only just discovered it today. I did reply to it if you're at all still interested.
