One of the most bizarre films I've ever seen

Your jaw will hang open in disbelief as you watch this movie. Isn't that LIZ TAYLOR getting *beep* in the dirt at a drive-in movie? And isn't that RICHARD BURTON as a genuinely evil genius?! It's beyond belief. I'd never heard of this movie and could not take my eyes off of it. Absolutely weird. Good movie, but just as twisted as they come. You'll never see another film like this one.

This is one of my all-time favorites, for some of the reasons you mention. Absolutely marvelous camp! The way Burton delivered some of his lines had me barking! Anyone who can say "Tutti...Frrruiti" (the gum he was chewing)in a way that has stayed with me for 35 years must be some actor! I thought the whole cast got into the spirit of this and really came through with a great final production. I made a copy of this movie in the mid 70's that's just about worn through the tape. Would love to find a source for purchase.

Oh yes, the Shakespearean utterance of "Tutti..(pause)...Frutti" has haunted my consciousness for decades as well.
That and Peter Ustinov saying something like "May you rot and burn in Hell like a...oh...a...um...a BLACK SPIDER!...worse than that I cannot think of." Those are really the only only two parts of the film I remember. But they made watching it worth it, even after all these years.

'If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to.'

I only saw this film once on TV and completely agree with OP. It is a jaw-dropper, hilarious and poignant at the same time. All I can say, is Hammersmith is not the only crazy character in this film!

Burton's character is really the DEVIL....but he is a 'faustian' devil, one that you make deals with.. I have not seen this movie in almost 30 years, but I still remember how demonic Burton was, remember the ending when he talks to the new guy? I STILL get a chill thinking about it!!

Everytime Burton has to kill someone that's his response when asked

We all would talk that way in college after seeing this late 70s

I’ll have to watch this sometime!

Toni Colette is fabulous to watch on screen as well.
