I feel stupid

I need Cliff Notes for this movie. Probably some of my confusion I could attribute to the dialogue being so rapid-fire in an accent I'm not wholly accustomed to. I feel like I must have watched films with more complex plots in the course of my long career as a movie-goer. And yet, I just finished watching this (LOVE that Crackle.com!!) and came away with just a tenuous grip on WTF that was all about.

That said, I still liked the movie. Good on ya, Albert Finney-- I only caught about 75% of what you said, and still you were able to create a damned likable character...charming, endearing, funny.

I think I'll track this one down on DVD sometime. Will watch with the captions on and will smack myself on the forehead-"Oh, DURRRR!! OK, makes sense now..."

I felt the same way, and watching while doing a few things around the place didn't help. I think it's supposed to remain a little obtuse. In the end, I think it's about a person somehow finding an odd sense of self contentment and place in the world. But personally, I found Finney's character a little too much like a nerdy, 12-year-old kid, who's a bit too sure of himself at times he shouldn't be.
