The Narrator

Does anyone know the name of the narrator of this film? His voice sounds so familiar but unfortunately it doesn't say who he is in the credits. I saw this on Encore's Western Channel a few weeks ago. Good movie!, well worth watching.

reply

Sounds a helluva lot like Orson Welles...

reply

Maybe a little bit; but I'm pretty sure it's not Orson Welles.

reply

Oops! my mistake, thanks for pointing that out.

I just looked up Paul Frees and it says he did the voice-over for the actor that played Admiral Yamamoto in the movie "Midway". That's were I've heard this voice before!!! Paul also plays the minister; Reverand Morrison in the prison scene at the end of the movie; "A Place in the Sun". He talks with Montgomery Clift's character; George Eastman towards the end of the movie. The voice is unmistakable!

Paul Frees .... Narrator (uncredited)

Sorry, for the late response. The narrator is confirmedly Orson Welles (visit http://www.seacoastnh.com/History/Jesse_James_Films/The_Great_Northfield_Minnesota_Raid/.) When I was watching the movie, I was thinking it was Ossie Davis, another actor with a wonderful voice.

reply

Oops. My bad. Startzar is correct. It was indeed Paul Frees. He was kinda like Rich Little, he had a talent for voices. He could do Orson Welles better than Orson Welles. Paul Frees' bio in IMDB shows he did a lot of "narrating" in movies and TV.

I am a couple of years too late but when I watched the movie this morning I knew the narrator's voice was familiar. It was the same guy who narrated a lot of the "Wonderful World of Disney" show in our (baby boomer) youth.

Loved the splendidly sonorous narration by Paul Frees.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!
