If you want Sony to release GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE on DVD...

If you would like the remastered GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE to be released on DVD, I urge everyone who reads this who wants this title and for the Midnite Movies series to continue as it should, write to Chris Franchino, who manages MGM catalog marketing, at [email protected] and David Bishop at [email protected] who heads the MGM DVD department at Sony.

Pretty sure it's available on DVD already.....

I just watched this movie very late last night on the Showtime CATV channel (I think) and the picture quality was outstanding. Much, much better than my DVD copy from Alpha Video, and I think that means that there is a restored & remastered version out there somewhere.

There is a region 2 version available in the UK from VIPCO. Sadly, the print is atrocious, but if you can't get a better copy, it's well worth picking up, as it seems to turn up at a very cheap price quite often.

The version on Showtime is from MGM who restored the film just prior to the Sony buy out. Sadly, despite doing some hunting around ( notice the french end title ) the MGM / Sony version is missing some blood and gore. All of the DVD's out there are sourced from TV prints. The MGM version restores the film to the length of the C andian VHS release on the CIC label. The US tape ( on the Unicorn label ) was sourced from a TV print ( likely the source for the Alpha DVD, dunno aboput the Vipco ). The only uncut version with more gore in 2 scenes is a OOP German VHS.

I purchased a DVD of this from Movies Unlimited, but the quality is pretty poor.

Is the RetroMedia version uncut? I know I have this film on VHS and it's, as far as I know, uncut.

The version being shown on Netflix is definitely uncut, or at least way less cut than previous releases. And its in widescreen and cleaned up nicely.

reply

Netflix has the cut PG version and 2 of the vampire attacks are cut down from the R version. It is better than the TV versions that are on most DVD's.

Retromedia is releasing an anamorphic widescreen DVD edition on March 19, 2013... Supposedly (though as yet unconfirmed), it will be uncut.

I just placed an order for the Retromedia disc. I'm glad they stepped up to the plate to put this flick on DVD.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

I picked up a special edition widescreen DVD this week at Barnes & Noble. It includes an original combo trailer (with Garden of the Dead. HA!), some other coming attractions, and a film restoration comparison. The print looks good, and the movie is fun.

Patience has paid off for fans of this neat little slice of seventies cheese.

(I would love MGM to continue releasing some of their Midnight Movies, some of which came out on vhs but have yet to appear on DVD).
