the final duel -spoiler-

Just watched this film... it's clearly a b-western, but it has its moments (the flashbacks are great!)!
but got one question regarding the end:
does Van Cleef get shot or not? you clearly see that the patriarch is still standing and shooting, and you see a shot of Van Cleef turning around hit... but then suddenly he gets on his horse and goes away happily.
maybe that they shot different endings?
clues anyone?

If you look closely you can see that Clayton was shot in the arm. It's not clear which of the Saxons shot him.I'm thinking it was probably David.

"We can't stop here. This is bat country!"

It's quite obvious he gets shot by David Saxon as you can see him bleeding from the left arm. But does he give a crap? No. It's Van Cleef man!

He goes away happily because it probably could have been much worse than just being shot in the arm. Things turned out well for him.

If you notice though, the patriarch does end up dead in the gunfight. Which version did you watch? Perhaps you did get a slightly different ending than I have.
