Citizen Kane and On the Waterfront
shareLet me start by saying The Godfather is one of my all-time favorite movies, but anyone who claims any given movie is the "best" is missing the boat. I think The Sound of Music or even Tora! Tora! Tora! are better films than The Godfather, but I doubt many on this board will agree with me, so I never compare this immortal classic with any other film.
"Best" is what you enjoy the most. I bought Citizen Kane way back when VHS was the take home format, and I got through about a third of it and turned it off. Just didn't grab me.
But yes, all those films you mentioned are often mentioned when "best movies" are named. There are others.
EDIT: I guess best to me is any movie that I *must* stop channel flipping and watch. The Godfather I and II are two such films.
2001 or Planet of the Apes
