Navy


I was in the Navy during this time and they showed it to us as a unit to show the dead end of drug use. Looking back on it, they may have had good intentions but this was not the movie to make the message. The navy should have found a different one to make the point. I was never into drugs but this would have not had an effect on me either way.

That's true of most Hollywood anti-drug films. Since they tend to shy away from reality, the message isn't as hard hitting as it needs to be. Look at Reefer Madness 1936, it's considered a comedy these days. It was supposed to be a scare film.

Recent documentaries that go directly into the underground drug culture and talk to people who are in that lifestyle are much more effective. Authenticity matters.



No two persons ever watch the same movie.
