Mackenzie Phillips First Movie - How Ironic

One of the main themes of the movie is that the druggies won't leave "Alice" (or whatever her name is supposed to be), alone, keep trying to get her high again or even onto harder stuff. When I was in high school (back then) you had the highs and the straights.

The highs didn't care whether you wanted to get high or not - they were an affable bunch. No way would they shun you or try to slip you something.

The straights were disdainful of the highs who didn't appear to want to do anything except get high, but they didn't actually pick fights with the highs - mostly just ignored them.

I thought it was very ironic that this was Laurie's (that's what her friends call her - that or Mac) first role. Here we are, 40 years later, still reading news stories about her getting busted for drugs.

I understand, Mackenzie Phillips played the girl who took drugs with Alice. She played really well. Better than the girl who played Alice, I think. I especially liked the scene when she stormed into the house Alice was babysitting in. In that scene she really looked like an agitated, out of her mind drug addict.

Mackenzie Phillips was in one brief scene in which she played a 14 year old addict/prostitute who alleges to have brought a disoriented Alice to a park to crash.

Ayn Ruymen plays the strung out home invader in the babysitting scene. She makes it her business to try to taunt Alice into relapsing into drug abuse.

Besides seeing Mackenzie Phillips looking so young, it was jarring to see her with dark hair. She's always had a shade of red hair most of the time I've known about her. I wondered if she was high during filming Go Ask Alice. She claims "the drug and alcohol abuse that had begun during her high school years" which would be around the time she played Doris.

When I was in high school during the 1980s, the "druggies" were known as stoners. Some did try to peer pressure other kids into participating. But I don't remember hearing about anyone as determined as Jan, the tweaker who kept harassing Alice. Including freaking out at her while babysitting.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
