Robert Loggia as Steve Carrelli(1)

TCM ;ecently ran COP KILLER which was filmed circa 1956 with Robert Loggia as Steve Carrelli(!) and mostly New York actors. It ran less than 80 minutes and was a decent little movie based on a paperback original. It had some of the flavor of the McBain books to come, but given the short running time there was little room for thecharacter development of the books except for Carrelli and his girlfriend,

Why they changed the spelling of the characters name is beyond me, but Loggia was more believable than Burt Reynolds.

2 different actors, 2 interpretations. Besides, Burt rules!

I admit FUZZ had an interesting cast, especially with Yul Brynner as the Deaf Man who was never caught. I remember a tv adaptation of KILLER'S WEDGE years ago with, I think Jack Kelly as Carrella, but it left out the locked room puzzle.

I also remember Mickey Spillane playing Mike Hammer once because he didn't think anybody else could play the role but he did approve of Stacy Keach. Rex Stout also appeared on the Dick Cavett show and talked about the rumor Holmes was Wolfe's father("A lot of people think that") and THE DOORBELL RANG in which Wolfe outsmarts J Edgar Hoover.

There's also the rumor on the commentary track for FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE that Ian Fleming had a cameo.
