R rating?

According to the Wikipedia entry on Frogs, the end credits were edited to avoid an R rating on the picture. So, anyone know exactly what the original end credits were supposed to be that would have warranted this movie receiving an R rating?

This is the current Wikipedia entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frogs_(film)

I don't see anything at all about an R rating.

The Wikipedia entry has definitely been cleaned up in 3 years. There's now a poster for the movie where there wasn't one before.

Like IMDB, Wikipedia's accuracy is based on the accuracy of the users who enter data into it. Many an IMDB entry has been grossly incorrect. Like the entry that was in IMDB for years for something called Drill Man: The Series, which never existed. So, someone must have put an entry on Wikipedia that said the end credits originally warranted an R rating.

Personally, I failed to see how the end credits alone could have warranted an R rating. Unless there was tons of frog gore, which would be unlikely.

reply

I agree, and suspect that may have been meant as a joke, since all you get at the end credit sequence is the animated frog gulping down an animated human hand!

reply

Unless they were saying the ending that was used was animated to replace an ending that had actual film footage. That would actually explain what is a rather bizarre sequence at the end of credits. But, it most likely doesn't. :)

This came out when I was a kid and was not allowed to see R rated movies (nor would the theater let me in.) I specifically remember this movie being rated PG, and being allowed to see it at the time as a result. It was never rated R.

reply

Yeah, the film was never released with an R rating. The Wikipedia entry said this film would have received an R rating with its original credits sequence intact. So, the ending credits were edited to get a PG rating.

Personally, I can't imagine how an ending credits sequence could warrant any movie receiving an R rating that any actual in movie footage wouldn't.

Some of the attack scenes were shortened for the film to get a PG rating, but they were all restored in Warner's VHS release and it still carried a PG rating. The amounts of cuts amounted to less than 10 seconds. The restored cuts are in Scream Factory's Blu-Ray double feature of FOOD OF THE GODS/FROGS.

reply

All wrong.

There's no need to make up stuff or guess.
Any film can be looked up right at the MPAA CARA site.

Here's the entry for Frogs:

Any edits or re-ratings will be mentioned under "OTHER", which is blank.

Was and always remained PG.
No re-edit, no appeal, nothing.

R rating = Ribbit?

I'm not too sure what restrictions are for this movie. I notice that Canada have even rated it G even beating the USA with it's liberal PG. It has a 15 rating in a lot of countries. I would say that the attacks are frightening to many viewers. It's hardly kid's stuff.
