Lucy, Frank, Dino and The Duke Crave 'Frenzy'

The new book on the making of "Frenzy" by Raymond Foery has many great discussions of the making of the film -- and a revelation near the end that rather amuses me:

As word spread both pre-release and after release as to how good "Frenzy" was, all manner of stars and Hollywood moguls put in special requests to Universal to get copies of the film to screen in their home projection booths, including:

Lucille Ball, John Wayne, Dean Martin, Mae West, James Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Kirk Douglas and..."Robert Evans wanted to see it over Labor Day Weekend, as did Frank Sinatra."

One wonders exactly how long some of those Old Time Stars kept "Frenzy" running before turning it off...or did they? No...I just can't see Lucy or the Duke making it past the Brenda Blaney murder.

Mae West and Frank Sinatra might have appreciated the film, though.

And I can only imagine how James Stewart handled the experience of watching "Frenzy." Or "Psycho" for that matter.

The reason all these stars requested "Frenzy" btw, was that the word in Beverly Hills was that "Hitchcock had finally made a good one again."
