Babs - "You're always fingering me"

This line was quite funny.

When Babs was trying to defend Blaney when the pub landlord accused him of helping himself to some booze, she said that the landlord was always fingering her.

Did "fingering" have a different meaning in the early 70s?

I imagine it meant (and still does) she was getting caught in the act of drinking

If I was accusing someone of something, I would be 'pointing the finger' at that person.

If I was 'fingering' that person, I would be doing something completely different!
