It's just like, cheesy on purpose. A lot of cheap horror movies are campy. They're stupid, funny, on purpose. This movie is extremely campy, with the monsters and the outer space scenes and just everything. It looks so cheap, but it has a sense of humour of itself so it's ok.

The term "camp" can be interpreted several ways. The passage of time can leave a film "dated" and things that were once meant to be taken seriously, become funny due to modern references. In the old days, cigarettes were called "fags". The word "gay" meant happy or carefree. Older films and tv shows were much more "innocent" and alot can be read into them that was not intended. Physical romance was often portrayed with kisses and a fade to black, followed by an obvious time lapse (wink, wink, nudge nudge). Flesh Gordon was a satire of old sci-fi serials and was a deliberate comedy, which doesn't fit the definition of camp. Campy films are ones that were not originally meant to be funny. The original Flash Gordon films can be considered camp.
