Music Score

I wonder how much money Henry Mancini received when he sued Warner Bros for lifting his score from Wait Until Dark? I have the video of this movie, some parts of the score don't sound like it came from Wait, yet other parts clearly are from the film.

the weird thing is that it has tracks from Wait, but they are slightly different than the '67 movie version. They either used different takes or recordings or added certain instruments like eerie water chime's against Mancini's haunting piano theme. It works beautifully, I wish Mancini hadn't sued over it, he should have been proud of it.
The video you have must be recorded off cable or network TV? Cause there's been no official VHS release as of yet. I still want to get a copy of it to replace the one I lost long ago

I think the reason he sued was not because he didn't want it in the movie but because they were about to cheat him out of royalties. He wasn't credited in the movies credits as composer, if you remember the opening credits, and they used it without permission.

there's a new book on amazon.com called TELEVISION FRIGHT FILMS OF THE 1970S that talks about this film.

Who is the author of this book I can't seem to find it?

I think part of The Omega Man score was used during the opening when Charles opens the casket and sees his uncle point at him but Mancini's score was used in much of this film.

reply

Yes, the opening scene steals from "The Omega Man", and that's not Mancini.
