I've never seen the movie, but it's an absolutely magnificent play. It has some of my favorite monologues.

I had no idea this movie was unavailable. If you look it up on Amazon, you can "vote" for its being released for the home market.

I saw the film recently, then read the play. I thought the film was better: less sparse, we see more of the younger girl, the mother is more likable.

The younger girl is played by the daughter of Newman and Woodward; she does a marvelous job, absolutely winning and sweet.

I have been told by more than one "boutique" video store owner (i.e., movie nuts who know, not some teenager at the local BlockBuster) that this title has never been released on any kind of home video format. It's a shame; if you catch it on TV RECORD IT! Joanne Woodward is terrific.

I´ve just seen it and I found it wonderful, especially the girl´s last speech.

[Bump] I just downloaded it from Rapidshare - took most of the day
to get all 7 parts, then another 4 hours getting it onto a DVD...

Just finished watching it and it's just as grippingly heart wrenching
as when I saw it in 1974 on TV, when I was Matilda's age. The quality
of the Rapidshare download is easily as good as VHS, and after a lot of
work getting it downloaded, converted, and burned to DVD, was TOTALLY
worth the watch and I feel lucky to finally have it in my library after
all these years.

Just wish they would put this PULITZER PRIZE WINNING (play) on DVD,
given it's Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, with their daughter in
her second (and last) movie role.... sad it's not available. It's
not appropriate to list how I found the download... and I don't want
to encourage others to try. As I said, were it on DVD or Blu-Ray I'd
buy it in a SECOND from Amazon or anyone else.

Wonderful, heartfelt, lump-in-the-throat movie.

Sadly, the film has never been released on commercial home video in the Unites States. No VHS, no laserdisc, no DVD. That is really a shame. It does air on FMC from time to time, occasionally letterboxed. However, we really need a DVD edition of this superb film.

I love this movie...I remember watching it as a child and I have searched for it ever since. I cannot believe it is not available anywhere. This movie was one of the amazing films that made me LOVE movies as an art form. I hung on every word of the girls last lines...and Joanne Woodwards' performance was stunning. I hope someday this is released for the world to enjoy...

the film needs to be released the younger stars of today could learn a thing or two about real acting from Joanne who was fabulous in this as she was in pretty much anything she appeared in even if the script wasn't the greatest the length of her on screen career speaks for itself even though she only actually appeared in 26 films in 38 years from 1955-1993 the reactions on her face always said more than the dialouge ever could've
