all those older brothers and sisters (but especially brothers)...

...of my friends, as it turns out, were total a$sholes, according to some of these really dated hippie films about how The Man keeps us down; how you, Mr. Policeman, are the one who's really in jail (did I just blow your mind, man?); and all that.

I'm not being sarcastic, actually; I'm saying, I think all these older brothers actually did act like complete late-adolescent jerkoffs, and all of us who thought they were so cool were just morons.

And yes, I'm making the leap from fictional characters to actual people, and I'm doing it for two reasons: 1) Some of these older siblings absolutely loved these movies and totally saw the characters as counterculture heroes; and 2) clearly the filmmakers believed, and rightly so, that this was the case. So at least some subset of the population = real a-holes. Yeesh.
