Why Lawrence?

I know the series went in it's own direction from the novel, never being incredibly accurate in the first place. I never minded any of that because of how much I enjoyed the films. But Van Helsing's first name is supposed to be Abraham. It just sounds like the writer never heard of the character beforehand and just made up a name on the top of his head. It's minor, but bugs me still.

I didnĀ“t like name Lawrence, either. Is he now half-English?
I like to think Van Helsing in 1958 Dracula and The Brides of Dracula is different guy!

Lawrence Van Helsing is a different Van Helsing to the first two movies. It's Abraham Van Helsing in Horror and Brides. Lawrence in Dracula AD and Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires. Lorrimer as the current Van in Dracula AD and Satanic Rites.

Lawrence is the Van Helsing as seen in both Horror and Brides of Dracula although not named as such but identified as the man who killed him in 1885 by Dracula himself in Legend of The Seven Golden Vampires! His bag has a J Van Helsing on the front but as J and L could look similar I'm going with that theory!
