Too Dark? .... Or is it my imagination?

I was able to get a copy of it when it aired on tv quite some time ago. Is it my imagination, or is the film DARK (literally & figuratively)?
As I understand, this was a low-budget production which depended much on the lighting and setting in order to capture the appropriate mood, (ie: grainy/dark tint). Although these methods successfully set the tone, I have found it quite difficult to watch. Almost all indoor and night scenes (which is significant in the film) are too dark - sometimes I can't make heads of tail on who's speaking.

Did you record it on your DVD player?

Could you help me out with a copy. I'll pay you for it!

It's got a brown muddy look to it which I think is quite deliberate to suit the mood and the fact that everyone is dressed in muddy rags and the scenery is just mud, dirt and dust to make the film more authentic looking. Great film and why is it not on DVD? There are so many films from the 60's and 70's - like this one - which seem to have disappeared into some kind of limbo presumably because there is no commercial value in re-releasing them i.e they are too cerebral for today's DVD audiences.

I think your right. It's a damn' shame though cos this is an amazing little movie. If they could release "Bad Company" they can release this.

Can anyone who has seen this comment on if Nick Nolte and Gary Busey have any scenes together?

reply

I've seen it and don't remember them in it at all. There was a scene with people gathering in the evening in a town hall or something, and they probably were both in it, but since the movie is very dim and light on dialogue and both their characters were not central to the story, you'd have to get this movie and look for them specifically.

Though stylistically similar, "Bad Company" is a superior film to this in story and direction. This isn't a bad film, but just not much "there" there.
