why did he have to..

Why did he stop being rejuvenated by drinking blood? Was it the law if diminishing returns? His drive-in victim failed to rejuvinate him. Why did he die at the end. Was his return temporary, a course to play out with a finite time with which to remain amoungst the living?

All good things must come to an end. But seriously, I think it was bound to happen that Andy would eventually start decomposing even after getting some blood. That's why he made his way to the cemetery, he knew the end was near.

He died at the end because his mother realised that it would be better if he was dead and started covering him in dirt. It was her who kept him from dying in the first place when she pleaded with God for him not to die just as he was being shot in Nam.

You're my wife now.

I felt it was just in keeping with the trappings of a horror movie. This was a story of a young man forever changed by what happened to him in the war. At the time no one talked about it. So to get a movie made addressing such a topic it had to be disguised as "zombie" movie.
