Title (spoilers)

I don't understand either title of the movie "Dead of Night" or "DeathDream", besides trying to be scary.

What does either title refer to in the movie? It seems like maybe a better title would be like Zombie Vietnam or "Return from War" or "Horror of War" or something.

Did I miss something?

Thanks in advance!

Its working titles were "The Night Walker" and "The Veteran". It's since been released under four or five other titles. As you suggest, the distributors probably wanted a scarier-sounding title, even if it had nothing to do with the plot.

What I'm having trouble figuring out is, which title is the original title? Deathdream or Dead of Night?

I'm pretty sure "Deathdream" is a 1980s reissue title. At any rate, the MPAA and the critics back in 1974 were calling it "Dead of Night".

Thanks for the information! I think they should've just stuck with "Dead of Night" as the title. It's at least a little more fitting than "Deathdream," which really doesn't relate to the film in any way.

Maybe they wanted to avoid confusion with the 1945 British classic with the same name.
