DESPERATELY need a reasonably priced DVD.

The only place I can find one is the Alan Bates Archive, which charges 38$, and it's from the US (Region 1). And UK DVDs that are at a normal cost??

What the hell's wrong with expressing yourself?

It's on Youtube at the moment, if that helps.

You can find the Sony Region 2 dvd everywhere and at a good price. I really feel that this movie looks terribly dated today, although it's superbly acted by Alan and Janet (two of my favourites). I'd say she fares better than him, but that's just because her role is (slightly) more somber and she doesn't have to do all the embarrassing things he has. The problem is: Medak wanted to give the movie an over the top, silly, Swinging London touch that clashes with the theme subject of the play (having a child in that condition isn't exactly laughing stuff). I reached the conclusion that these British movies from the late 60's/early 70's may represent my least favourite film genre ever. All the supporting characters are cutups (Murray Melvin's doctor deserves a dishonorable mention) and seem to come straight from an obnoxious episode of "The Avengers" (it wasn't surprising to see Peter Bowles show up, looking like Gomez Addams). I'm sure the child isn't seen in the play. That may help. One nice surprise: an uncredited Jean Marsh inside the Moonrocket!
