John C Higgins - John Q Higgins? Coincidence?

Just wondering if this movie had ANY relation, besides Tom Selleck, to Magnum PI several years later. I wonder if they borrowed the screenwriters name for Johnathan Hillermans' character and just replaced the C with a Q (I can almost see someone closing up the C on the script to make it a Q).
